What is bat shaving?

Bat shaving is bat modification where the end cap is of a baseball, slowpitch or fastpitch bat is removed. The bat is the inserted into a lathe to shave the inner walls of the bat to increase its trampoline effect. This creates a thinner wall, allowing the barrel to flex more and greatly increasing the "trampoline effect" on contact. If done by someone with years of experience a shave bat can actually perform beyond expectations as well as being durable.

How It Works

  1. The Process: Technicians pop off the end cap and use a CNC lathe to evenly remove a predetermined amount of composite or alloy material from the inner diameter.
  2. The Result: The bat becomes significantly lighter (decreasing its swing weight) and allows the barrel to flex more efficiently.
  3. Performance Gains: The thinner walls can add anywhere from 30 to 50+ feet to batted ball distances and vastly increase the sweet spot
